In. Transmission of Nerve Impulses The transmission of a nerve impulse along a neuron from one end to the other occurs as a result of electrical changes across the membrane of the neuron. The membrane of an unstimulated neuron is polarized—that is, there is a difference in electrical charge between the outside and inside of the membrane. Nerve impulses have a domino effect. Each neuron receives an impulse and must pass it on to the next neuron and make sure the correct impulse continues on its path. Through a chain of chemical events, the dendrites (part of a neuron) pick up an impulse that’s shuttled through the axon and transmitted to the next neuron. A nerve impulse is the electric signals that pass along the dendrites to generate a nerve impulse or an action potential.

Nerve impulse: Nerve impulse is an overall physiological changes that occur in a neuron due mechanical, chemical or electrical disturbance created by a stimulus. It propagation through axon, synapse and neuromuscular junction is called Nerve Impulse conduction.

A nerve cell that carries messages is called a neuron ( Figure below ). The messages carried by neurons are called nerve impulses. Nerve impulses can travel very quickly because they are … The following events characterize the transmission of a nerve impulse (see Figure 1): Resting potential. The resting potential describes the unstimulated, polarized state of a neuron (at about –70 Graded potential.

The transmission of impulses through the neuron is called propagation or conduction of nerve impulses. The impulse transmission is … The process of transmission of a nerve impulse from one neuron to the other, after reaching the axon’s synaptic terminal, is known as synapses. This transmission of the nerve impulse by synapses involves the interaction between the axon ending of one neuron (Presynaptic neuron) to the dendrite of another neuron (Postsynaptic neuron). another impulse comes along.
